Explore Downtown
Fitzgerald's downtown has many attractions within easy walking distance, so park your car and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine!
Bike or stroll through our historic district as you learn about many of our significant structures via self-guided tours - Architectural Treasures, Bicycle Fitzgerald, Granitoid Structures, Markers & Monuments, and Points of Interest. The Architectural Tour is surprisingly diverse; since our settlers came from all over the country, you will find an eclectic blend of styles unique to south Georgia. The Granitoid Structures Tour is also a unique tour to our community. We have a large concentration of buildings made with Granitoid because the Granitiod manufacturing business was located right here in Fitzgerald, GA.
If you enjoy music and art, we have something for you to enjoy. The Fitzgerald-Ben Hill Arts Council hosts Art Exhibits from local, regional and nationally known artists in the Carnegie Center Gallery and in the rotunda at the library; Concerts; Live Theatre Productions and Third Thursday events throughout the year.
Take a break at the Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Library. The library is a quiet place to relax and read or catch up on your social media. They have free WiFi in the Reading Garden, a children’s reading area and an art exhibit for your enjoyment.
History buffs will enjoy a visit to our city. The newly renovated Depot houses a variety of exhibits and permanent collections. The Blue & Gray Museum located in the Depot is the repository of artifacts and information on Fitzgerald’s unique founding story as well as subsequent events of interest. The Fitzgerald History Exhibit tells the story of Fitzgerald’s history following the founding story that is told in the Blue & Gray Museum. The Train exhibit features an extensive collection of train memorabilia, collectibles and a restored caboose. The Depot also houses a genealogy research facility.
Grab a bite to eat in one of our local downtown Restaurants after a fun-filled day of Shopping, playing Giant Chess on the Grand Plaza Park stage, and visiting our museums and galleries.
