"What I dream of is an art of balance."
 - Henri Matisse (1869 - 1954), O Magazine, April 2003

Fitzgerald Welcomes the World.....

In an effort to expose the citizens to unique cultural events, the Arts Council sponsors events that showcase famous entertainers and renowned ensembles. Theatrical productions featuring well-known actors, as well as musical performances range from symphonic to pop.

The Council also wins young people over to the arts. From science shows with "Dr. I. Wonder" to storytelling, a wide array of activities allows children to express themselves through different artistic and cultural media.

Big on Local Talent

The citizens of Fitzgerald are blessed with an abundance of local talent, and the Arts Council seeks to display and showcase this treasure.Image

From the beautiful creations of master carvers C.M. Copeland and Randy Anthony to the awe-inspiring pieces of Ronald Goodman and David Malcolm, native visual artists represent their home well. The Council maintains an Artist Spotlight in its office and visual arts exhibits (both local and visiting) in the library. Also, the Carnegie Center, located at 120 South Lee Street, houses the work of over forty area artists in addition rotating visual arts shows.

The Grand Theatre provides the perfect home for local performing groups. Band and choral concerts as well as community theatre productions continually pack the house.

Arts Council Gets Involved

The volunteers of the Council sponsor various activities that shine a positive spotlight on the arts. These sponsorships include:

  • Arts Person of the Year
  • Fitzgerald High School Spring Festival
  • Fine Arts Extravaganza, bringing together the finest young talent in music, theater, and visual arts
  • Arts Council Scholarships
  • Arts in Education Series for each school in the system
