| The Fitzgerald Fire Department, whose 22 fire fighters and officers are guided by Chief Jay Whitley, provides a superb service to our community. Currently, the city's fire classification is 4. Equipment and training in the fire department are constantly being upgraded to ensure our town is well protected. For example, the FFD is now developing a hazardous materials (hazmat) unit equipped to handle industrial/chemical emergencies.
