To Register for Programs:
- Come to the D.L.S. Office between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (we have specific dates for specific sports.)
- Bring a certified birth certificate or copy of a certified birth certificate for us to copy for our files.
- Bring activity fee.
- Complete our activity registration/liability forms
- If your child has participated in a DLS sport before, don't forget to SIGN THE BOOK.
Local Athletic Programs
The mainstay of the DLS programs has been and continues to be youth and adult team sports. The DLS offers a complete program of youth basketball, baseball, softball, football, soccer, cheerleading, adult softball, basketball and flag football.
For an activity fee, children as young as 5 and as old as 15 can play soccer. T-Ball are ages 5 & 6. Boys baseball are ages 7-16 and girls softball are ages 7-14. Boys and Girls ages 7-14 years old can play basketball. Ages 7-12 years old can play football and cheerleading. SEE AGE CONTROL DATES ABOVE.
Adult leagues operate on a team entry basis, with local churches, businesses and industries, as well as open teams, entering in the various leagues.
For the individual, the DLS offers a variety of athletic and non-athletic activities. On the athletics and fitness side, the DLS offers open swimming and swimming lessons for children 6 years old and older beginning in June.. Non-athletic activities vary seasonally.
Senier Citizen Activities
The DLS along with the Ben Hill Senior Citizen Center has become a local leader in organizing and promoting senior activities in Fitzgerald and Ben Hill County. The DLS is the direct sponsor of the Spring Senior Fish Fry's and the Senior Christmas Luncheon.
The DLS conducts or sponsors many special events during the year.such as the 4th of July Celebration. For more information please contact us..
All during the year, the DLS is host to local, District and State Tournaments for all athletics.
BASEBALL: Leagues are available for persons 7-14 years of age. Teams are selected in March with regular season games played April-June and GRPA tournament competition in July for older ages. Registration is held during the month of February through the 1st week of March. T-Ball is for children ages 5 & 6.
BASKETBALL: Leagues are available for boys and girls ages 7-14. Registration is held during the month of November through the 2nd week of December.
FOOTBALL: Leagues are available for boys ages 7-12 with registration held in July & August and regular season games played September through October.
SOCCER: Coed soccer leagues are available for boys and girls ages 5-15 years of age. Registration is held during the month of July & August.
SOFTBALL: Youth leagues are available for girls 7-14 years of age. Registration is held during the month of February through the 2nd week of March with regular season games played in April-June Tournament play for girls and boys is held June-August.
Adult leagues for men and women (Open, Church, Industrial, 40 & over, and Coed) are also organized.
SWIMMING: Swim lessons are offered in the mornings from June-July by certified life guards with the pool open to the public in the afternoons. (check back in June for this years fees for swim lesson and dates & pool open to public dates and fees)
The Fitzgerald Fins swim team, co-sponsored by the Fitzgerald-Ben Hill D.L.S., competes in invitational and championship meets in the summer months.
TENNIS: Courts are available for unsupervised play and are available day and night.

CHEERLEADING: Registration is held during the month of July & August for girls ages 7-12. Girls are divided into squads and cheer for teams in our youth football leagues during September and October.
WILD CHICKEN FESTIVAL: The Fitzgerald Ben Hill Department of Leisure Services is a sponsor of this annual event that is held the 3rd weekend in March. Wild Chicken Festival website
EASTER EGG HUNT: This event is held prior to Easter at Legion Park.
JULY 4TH CELEBRATION: The Fitzgerald Ben Hill Department of Leisure Services celebrates July 4th at Paulk Park each year with free hot dogs and drinks, watermelon eating contests, greased pole climbing contest with 2 age categories, free entertainment and concludes with a spectacular fireworks show.
SPEAKERS: Speakers are available on a variety of recreation-related topics for meetings of local clubs and organizations.
COACHES TRAINING: Certification for youth coaches is offered through the American Sports Education Program for coaches involved in the D.L.S. sports programs. Contact DLS for available dates for certification classes.
SENIOR CITIZENS: The Fitzgerald Ben Hill D.L.S. sponsers the annual Spring fish fry and the Christmas luncheon each year. Walking sites are available at the majority of our parks.
